Arizona looks pretty in pink joining the national crusade for a breast cancer cure. Scottsdale and the surrounding areas are hosting a series of events throughout October in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. So put on your pins, bracelets, hats and all things pink, and join Home Care Assistance of Scottsdale in supporting a good cause by taking part in one or more of the events listed below.
1. Say “Ah” at Agave Spa
Treat yourself to a special mani & pedi at The Westin Kierland Resort, and Agave Spa will donate $10 to Komen CAN AZ. As part of the spa’s October “Pamper for a Cure” program, you’ll get your nails painted pink and receive a take-home bag with a breast cancer support wristband, toe ring in pink pave crystal, ribbon-shaped emery board, and two Travel Spa nail polishes. The cost of the nail service is $88 and reservations can be made by calling 480-624-1202 or emailing [email protected]
2. Shop Till You Drop
When you shop at Phoenix Premium Outlets and make a $10 donation to Susan G. Komen, you’ll receive 25% off the purchase of one item. The following stores are participating in the “Pink Event”:
- Polo Ralph Lauren
- Tommy Hilfiger
- Neiman Marcus Last Call
- Brooks Brothers
- Elie Tahari
- Old Navy
- Eddie Bauer
- Kate Spade New York
Go to a mall Information Center to make your cash or credit contribution. Premium Outlets has pledged to donate at least $100,000 to Susan G. Komen!
3. Gifts Galore by Self Magazine
On Saturday, October 25, at Phoenix Premium Outlets, Self magazine is hosting yoga classes, a pink fashion show, nail polish stations, and prize giveaways. Be one of the first 150 people there by noon, and you’ll receive a free yoga class, pink manicure, and a chance to win one of two Tory Burch Fitbits. To participate in the “Pink Celebration,” go to the mall’s Arroyo Court near Michael Kors. Your $10 donation will support the Northern & Central Arizona Affiliate of Komen.
4. Win a Zoom Teeth Whitening Treatment
Donate an item to J. Philipp Centers for Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in Chandler, and you’ll be eligible to win a free teeth whitening treatment. The dental office is collecting items to fill “Hope Bags” that will be given to women diagnosed with breast cancer. You can provide inspiration by giving pink ribbon merchandise, pink bracelets, CDs, breast cancer literature, or a monetary donation. The dental practice will also donate proceeds from October oral cancer screenings to My Hope Bag, a non-profit organization.
5. Walk to Stomp Out Breast Cancer
On October 25, you can participate in a 3-mile, non-competitive walk at Tempe Beach Park to support the American Cancer Society. Pledges will fund ACS patient support, research, education, and advocacy. The “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walkathon begins at 8 am, with registration at 7 am.
6. Service Your Car
During October, you can receive free brake pads (an $80 value) at an auto shop participating in a nationwide “Brakes for Breasts” campaign. You’ll only need to pay for labor and any additional parts. The shop will donate 10% of every brake service to the Cleveland Clinic. To find out if you’re eligible for the service, you need to make an appointment by completing an online form found here: www.brakesforbreastsaz.org. In the Phoenix-Scottsdale region alone, there are 30 participating shops!
7. Wine in Style
Share a bottle of ONEHOPE Wine at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort and half of the proceeds will go to The Gateway for Cancer Research. You can enjoy your wine at Remington’s Restaurant or JD’s Sports Pub where pink will be the color theme throughout the resort. In further support, the Salon & Day Spa is offering an October “Pink Glow” special. You’ll receive a pampering 25-minute body polish and 30-minute sauna treatment.
There are so many ways that Phoenix seniors, family members and caregivers can not only help support breast cancer research, but can have fun in the process! Whether you choose to go to a spa, lunch, shop, service your car, dine, walk, take a tour, or make a donation, it’s important to be part of the effort toward that spectacular, miraculous, wondrous day when breast cancer is conquered forever!
